Once the favourite property of ex-Dictator Samoza in his hey day this
luxurious Villa, made of Italian marble and precious woods stood proudly
on a cliff overlooking a massive sandy, private beach and the deep blue
Pacific.
The Sandinistas brought in Italian architects to transform this slice of
paradise into a place accessible to the common man.
The Villa became a
casino and restaurant and along the beach little bungalows were built in a
first class manner to complement the Villa.
Central America's
largest swimming pool was put in as well. The bungalows were connected by
little paths underneath massive palm trees. Along the beach another
restaurant was built and another bar further down. The 2 miles of private
sand were lined with coconut palms and almond trees and hammocks were
strung up underneath them. Playa Montelimar Beach Resort and Casino was
born.
Montelimar somehow manages to be a luxury resort without selling its soul.
The atmosphere is still Nicaraguan - friendly, peaceful and unpretentious -
luxury at its most natural.
Day 10 - Montelimar - Managua Airport
