On the Idyllic Placencia Peninsula, Southern Belize
For the Utmost in Privacy and Relaxation

Rum Point Inn, located 60 miles south of Belize City on the Placencia Peninsula with the best beaches in Belize. Rum Point Inn, where personalized service is the rule and the unique ambiance is famous, has been run by the Bevier family since its opening in 1974.

You will be cosseted in a spacious exotic setting nestled in your own oasis, a sculpted dome within feet of the tranquil Caribbean.

The social hub of the resort is the Main House with its Library and magnificent hammock-hung verandah! Here you will also find the Tropical Dining Room where imaginative meals are created daily and served in a family communal setting.

10 beach front cabañas and 12 new suites with a special flair and added amenities such as Air Conditioning that will enhance your stay at Rum Point Inn.

Each spacious room, with either a king or two queen beds and sofa, enjoys a private bath, ceiling fan, personal safe, coffee maker, refrigerator, an interior garden, and is furnished with locally designed and made Belizean hardwood furniture, local art, and Guatemalan fabrics especially created for Rum Point Inn.

Rum Point Inn amenities for guests include: our New 40' swimming pool, bicycles, kayaks, Hobie Cat, Sunfish, large colorful wooden beach chairs, snorkel gear, a sailing dinghy, and a self guided Nature Trail. There is a full line of DACOR SCUBA gear available for rent. Snorkel and dive instruction can be arranged right on the premises with our dive shop, Rum Point Divers.

Other services include: a Gift Shop with many local crafts, full service Bar, Laundry services, FAX, USA direct telephone service, E-mail, and the Orchid Snack Bar (due for late Summer).

The extensive library, both books and video, covers Maya studies, Natural History, Belizean authors, and history, an assortment of reference materials, current fiction, Latin American authors, various magazines and publications, an extensive video and book selection for children, and some board games. These can be enjoyed in the library, or, better yet, on the hammock hung verandah overlooking the beach.

There are also beach chairs and palm thatched palapas on the beach to really get away from it all, where you can enjoy a Rum Point Punch or other libation from our friendly bar.

Many tours are available including a visit to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, the world's only Jaguar Preserve; perhaps a boat trip up the Monkey River to see birds, iguanas, and Howler Monkeys and more; or take a journey to the Maya Ruins of Southern Belize - Lubaantun and Nimli Punit and the Maya villages of today. Another popular activity is Fishing.

The Placencia area is considered one of the prime fishing areas of Belize and offers Flyfishing, Trolling and Spincasting for Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, and many others.

The boats at Rum Point Inn are led by the premier dive boat in the area, the 42ft. jet boat AURIGA II. Rum Point Divers has an air compressor and keeps 80 80cu. ft. tanks, and a few 67 cu ft and 52 cu ft available for our guests. The dive boat leaves every morning at 8:30 am and returns between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Rental gear and instruction available on request.

Dive sites are marked by G.P.S. to insure they are in the right spot without having to drop an anchor on the living coral reefs below. Each boat carries a first aid kit, oxygen, and marine band radio and the crew is trained in CPR and First Aid. The Captain and the Divemasters are all insured and in good standing with PADI. Passengers can be assured that, although remote, every precaution is taken to ensure the safety of guests.

Rum Point Divers is a Bronze sponsor of the DAN program and is also involved with the hyperbaric chamber program in San Pedro. A charge of $1 US per tank fee is collected to insure guests in the unlikely event that should there be a diving related injury, they will be financially covered for transport and admission to the facility in San Pedro. This service is also useful for the diver who is already insured by the DAN program, as this service will cover the initial deductible.

"Dear Ann, I wanted to get back to you about our trip to Belize and stay at Rum Point Inn. We had the best time, hurricane and all! George and the staff at Rum Point were so accommodating and the inn is charming and so unique.. Our room was beautiful, spacious and cool, with wonderful air conditioning. The meals were all incredible and each am they would put up the menu for dinner that night and we would be anticipating it all day. The best pie crusts ever! We ended up getting half our dives in which are the best I have ever done. It was just the 2 of us and the dive master, the perfect way to dive. Lunch was on a tiny island each day. We truly were in paradise. The hurricane got in the way of our plans to go to Belize City to see the ruins, as you know, but other than that all went smoothly. We want to go back in the spring to see the whale sharks and ruins, pockets willing. That was so kind of you to check on us in Placencia during the hurricane. How is Ambergris Caye doing after Keith? Yes, luck was with us in choosing southern Belize. Thank you for all your work in making our vacation plans and I will definitely be in touch if we can swing the trip in the spring. Take care, Julie P.S. do a remarkable job and it is greatly appreciated"
