During your stay in Belize City the Colton Family invites you to share their home, a 1920's British Colonial wooden house constructed in traditional Caribbean style with polished heart of pine floors and high ceilings with drop paddle fans. Colton House has maintained the charm and character of an old Merchant's home while providing a casual, elegant style for guests to enjoy.

Colton House, a fine example of vernacular architecture, is situated on Cork Street opposite the prestigious Radisson Fort George Hotel adjacent to the Fort Point Tourism Village

Colton House, retaining its old colonial charm, creates a personal andfriendly atmosphere in the old tradition of home style hospitality.  Colton House offers an idyllic retreat for those travelers who favour a quieter ambience and, although intended for the mature person, does welcome children over the age of 9 years.

Only 100 yards from the Caribbean Sea, yet within walking distance of downtown Belize City, we are conveniently located for the business person or tourist. After the day's business or touring is done, relax on our large wraparound verandah

With it's double swings, reclining chairs and cool sea breeze, it is the ideal place to unwind, catch up on theday's events with your fellow travelers or just sit back and watch the world pass by.

Nature lovers are enthralled by the impressive variety tropical birds that visit our gardens and the lush foliage that surrounds Colton House. With the Audubon society headquarters just around the corner it is a perfect base for bird enthusiasts.

Of the 4 rooms on the main level, Michael's Room is a favorite with honeymoon couples who think the Victorian iron four-poster bed, with it's eyelet canopy, inspires a dash of vintage romance. Honeymooners are also welcomed with a crystal glass tray holding a pair of goblets and a decanter of Alan's home vinted fruit wine - the perfect nightcap to insure a blissful night's rest.

Michael's very own teddy bear adorns the white wicker love seat.  A patch work quilt and a framed memento from the Boston museum pick up the hues in the coordinated wall colours which are topped off with a refreshing, muted, floral border.

Alan's Room offers the grandeur of the Victorian Era, with a sumptuous queen four poster bed and single bed, this stately bedroom makes guests feel as if they have slipped into another time. The ornate embossed wall covering with it's unexpected colour combination of Victorian White and Iron Grey makes a dramatic decorating statement and, when added to the delicate touches of lace and elegant furniture, creates a setting that you will yearn to retreat to every night. The overstuffed rocker recliner, illuminated by an old fashioned lamp, adds a charming touch that provides the perfect place to curl up and escape to, with a good novel.

Ondina's Room room is full of delightful surprises. From it's queen size mahogany bed personally hand crafted by Alan several years ago, to it's nostalgic collection of whimsical knick-knacks and relaxing rocking chair it gives a time worn feel that one associates with being at home.

The Old fashioned, vivid floral pattered, wall covering adds a sense of Victorian elegance to the setting.

Sean's Room could be described as the prettiest in the house. It is a lovely combination of embossed wallpaper, plush coverlets and rugs in captivating hues that encircle the fanciful keepsakes and handcrafted and painted furniture. It can accommodate three people with it's double bed and day bed.

The large louvered window overlooks Sonia's garden. A small, private verandah with intimate seating for two, provides an enclave of peace and gives the perfect finishing touch to this delightful room.

Sonia's Room, also known as the "Garden room", is at ground level, with cable television, refrigerator, microwave oven, toaster and coffee and tea pots and is ideal for a longer stay.   It has one double bed and is decorated in subtle "Laura Ashley " style. The low beamed ceiling evokes an appealing cottage charm to this dainty room as does the private, tropical garden that it shares with Jennifer's room. The treasured showpiece of garden is an intimate, rustic, bower adorned with beautiful flowering vines. The profusion of flora and fauna make this sweet retreat simply irresistible and beckons it's guests to linger all day long.

Jennifer's Room. Tucked away in the corner of Sonia's Garden, with a hand-made double bed, Jennifer's room is named after the friendly, cheerful housekeeper.

A cozy, comfy, oh-so-inviting, full-length window seat is the focal point of this room where one can relax in cushioned comfort and enjoy the tropical delights of the garden. Migrating and tropical birds can be observed visiting the multicoloured Hibiscus blooms cascading across the garden wall.

The charming hosts, Alan and Ondina will make you very welcome. Alan, an ex-British Forces Warrant Officer is the one who keeps Colton House maintained in it's old colonial splendour.

Ondina, a native Belizean "hicaquena" (born in Caye Caulker), is the back room over and shaker. You will notice her presence in every room in the house, from the cheerful parlour, where the guests mingle, to each individual guestroom.
