In the Path of the Rain Gods
Spectacular Mayan Temples and Pyramids were hidden for a thousand years in the midst of the rainforests of Central America.
This fabulous tour visits the very best of the Yucatan sites: Uxmal, Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum as you travel from the beautiful Colonial City of Merida to Cancun on the Caribbean Coast.
Imagine the colourful ceremonies where human sacrifices were offered to the Gods.
Listen carefully and you will hear the
still-beating heart of a dying civilization.
Day 1 - Arrival in Merida, Mexico - (RO)
Meet & Greet on arrival at Merida Airport and transfer to the Hotel Caribé for a two night stay.
The Hotel Caribé is a converted Convent overlooking a small park where mariachis and marimba players come to play in the evenings and weekends. There is also a small roof-top swimming pool overlooking the Cathedral.
Merida is the biggest and oldest (1542) colonial city of the Yucatan Peninsula. The panama hats bought here are the best in the world and hammocks are made by the local prisoners!
Day 2 - Merida - (B)
Early breakfast so that you can take advantage of the cooler morning to enjoy a Walking Tour. Visit Mexico's cleanest city and its 17th Century architecture. You will visit the main buildings of this beautiful colonial city.
There will then be plenty of free time for you to relax, swim in the roof top pool at your hotel or do more shopping in the markets.
Late afternoon, sit back and relax as you are taken on a Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride down the Paseo de Montejo past all the wonderful old haciendas that belonged to the Henequin barons at the turn of the century.
Day 3 - Uxmal - (B,D)
Afternoon guided tour including Dinner and the dramatic Light and Sound Show at Uxmal, considered by many to be the most beautiful of all Mayan sites. Two night stay at the lovely colonial Hacienda Uxmal.
In the intimate elegance of the Hacienda are 80 rooms, each with a view of our lushly tropical pool area. The beds are the latest in modern comfort while the furnishings are hand-made using indigenous woods and local artistry. Private baths, full air conditioning, and satelite TV ensure the comfort of guests.
Day 4 - More Mayan Mysteries - (B,D)
Today you can choose to take a guided sightseeing tour of Kabah, Sayil, Labna and the Loltun Caves or you can simply spend more time at Uxmal. Another overnight stay at the fabulous Hacienda Uxmal.
Day 5 - Chichen Itza - (B,D)
Transfer by road to Chichen Itza for an overnight stay at the Mayaland Hotel set in 100 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens in the heart of the archaeological park, with its own entrance to the Maya temples.
Built by the Barbachano family in 1930, the hotel has been totally refurbished and expanded in the 90's. Accommodations in the main house have breathtaking views of the Maya temples and the Maya bungalows are located among tropical flowering trees.
Day 6 - Cenote Dzitnup and Coba - (B,D)
Morning visit to the fabulous Cenote Dzitnup for a swim in the most amazing swimming pool - crystal clear waters of a fabulous underground well. Climb down the stone steps cut by the Mayans and swim beneath the stalagtites in this little-known magical place. Next it is on to Coba for an overnight stay at the Villas H2O.
Day 7 - Tulum - (B)
Today's fabulous tour combines the beauty of the Mayan City of Tulum with Xel-Ha creek, declared national park, where you can swim and snorkel among colorful tropical fishes. Its lagoons and inlets are fed simultaneously by subterranean fresh water springs and by the Caribbean Sea.
The archaelogical site of Tulum is in the most spectacular position on Mexico's Caribbean Coast. Situated on top of a cliff overlooking turqoise waters and golden sands it is here where you can learn the secrets of the Temple of the Diving God!
This tour can end in either Playa del Carmen or in Cancun. Playa del Carmen is convenient for the ferry crossing to the lovely island of Cozumel or bus connections south to Chetumal on the Belize/Mexico border. Cancun is a superb beach destination and the hub for boat connections to idyllic little Isla Mujeres, and flights to Guatemala or other international destinations.
We know that you will get the very best out of your tour of the major Mayan Sites of the Yucatan with the benefit of being able to relax whilst someone else does the driving and in the company of knowledgeable guides whose expertise will bring everything to life.
