For the adventurer, the Wild South offers an opportunity to explore one of the last remaining undisturbed rainforests in all of Central America and also allows time to "chill out" for a few days on an idyllic island on the Southern Belize Barrier Reef. |

Day 1 - Sunday - Arrival in Belize - (RO)
Meet & Greet on arrival at Belize International Airport and transfer to the Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel for an overnight stay. Day 2 - Monday - The Adventure Begins... (B,L,D) |
|
|
Our journey begins by charter plane from Belize City, flying the length
of the country over a mosaic of mountains, rivers and rainforests before
landing in the small southern town of Punta Gorda.
From here we commence our spectacular adventure by land and river into the seldom visited primary rainforest of the Blue Creek region. Within the Sanctuary is a unique canopy walkway which enables us to walk through the treetops, over 80 feet above the forest floor. We will also explore a vast cave system. The next two days are based from our jungle lodge within the Blue Creek Wildlife Sanctuary. Accommodations are basic dormitory-style cabanas with a central lodge for dining, educations talks etc. Although rustic the picturesque location in the rainforest along a beautiful creek is the real attraction. |

We are located in the heart of Belize's richest primary forests - an
area far off the tourist path, considered the homeland of the Kekchi and
Mopan Maya.
Also in the surrounding jungle are the Hokeb Ha Caves, with fantastic flowstone formations, delicate cave pearls, and translucent draperies of calcium carbonate. Here we gain a sense of why the caves were held sacred by the Maya as a gateway to the netherworld. |

Day 4 - Wednesday - Jungle River Kayaking - (B,L,D)
|
|
|
The next stage of our journey takes us deeper into the wilderness. We
spend 3 days on the Upper Moho River using specially designed
PVC-construction, two-person inflatable river kayaks, which combine the
stability of a raft with the ease and performance of a kayak.
This river has been chosen for the superb scenery and wildlife viewing and combines flat-water, underground excursions and exhilarating whitewater challenges. Travelling the river through the rainforest in the wild south of Belize is an exceptional experience to remember and talk of for years to come. |
