Day 3 - Island Hopping!! - (B,L,D) During the next 5 days we will kayak and sail from island to island along the Southern Belize Barrier Reef. You will be able to try world class snorkeling, explore secluded mangrove islands, or kick back in a shaded hammock while guides prepare delicious meals of seafood, fresh vegetables, tropical fruits and fresh baked bread. The barrier reef of Belize extends some 165 miles in a north-south direction and ranges from 10 to 25 miles offshore of the mainland. It is the longest continuous reef in the Caribbean and the second longest reef in the world. |

Strung along the reef are hundreds of islands some with coconut palm and beautiful white beaches others are long ranges of partially submerged land and mangrove. The lagoon between the barrier reef and the mainland is 10 to 20 miles wide in the north, widening to 25 miles in the south.
The barrier reef provides shelter from the open sea and is the habitat for a spectacular diversity of marine life. Belizean waters are typically shallow, with thousands of patch reefs, shifting sandbores and coral islands making it a world-class tropical sea kayaking destination. These boats are particularly well suited for exploring shallow waters and to access remote and pristine coral reefs for snorkeling. Photographers will especially appreciate the ability to get within close range of wildlife. |
